Ebay Bidding - Does My Bid Attract Attention?

I was just wondering about this: If something has no bids at all and I bid on it, does the fact that I've bid on it bring it to other people's attention?
What I mean is if I bid, will lots of people see that I've bid on it whereas if I hadn't bid the item wouldn't have attracted any attention?
I'm not wording this very well am I? I guess what I'm saying is does my bid attract a lot of "me too" bidders or not? I've just really got into this Ebay misspelling thing and there are a few items with no bids at the moment. For obvious reasons I'd like to be the only bidder. Not being greedy (okay a little) but I don't want to waste my time searching for difficult to find items if my efforts result in a bidding war. Does my question make any sense???

I dont think it makes it any more visible to other bidders by you bidding on it.0

Okay, thanks!0 -
I know what you mean, it always seems like an opening bid on an item suddenly draws other bids, even if the item has had no bids for a few days.
However, it's sometimes useful to put an opening bid on an item as it activates the Goofbay tool which lets you see how many watchers there are.

Wow that Goofbay tool is very useful. One of MY items has 10 watchers, grrr.0

Hi I always say be very careful with misspellings as a lot of overseas conmen use them to sell fakes.
Try this on goofbay now just type nokia into the misspellings search bar and the first thing you get is this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190363158445&ih=009&category=3312&ssPageName=WDVW&rd=1
Now I have a real Nokia N97 bought from the carphone warehouse and this listing is not real it is a fake and not a very good one when compared to the real thing but at just over £165 it has already conned a few people looking for a bargain so be careful when using this tool.
They don't even hide the fact it is not real but just look at a few of the posts on here and you will see not many buyers read the listing fully so they are going to get conned into thinking it is real and just cheap because it is misspelled.0 -
Yes, I see the sly devils have called it Nokla.0
