Claiming no claims discount retrospectively

Had an accident 18 months ago - not my fault. Went to court and eventually yesterday had a cheque for my excess. Had another accident in same year, so lost my protected no claims (1 accident would have been ok).

Anyway, since then I've got new insurance with another insurance. Because of the outstanding status of the one claim it was classed as at fault. So I only got 3 years no claims, and 2 claims were listed on my proposal.

Can I know go back to them and ask for a retrospective refund? Surely they should refund me so that the price is what it was if I'd had only 1 at fault accident and full no claims? After all, its not my fault it took so long to sort out.

Also, I'm named driver on wifes car. Shes got full no claims but when we last renewed I had to put two at fault claims down. Just wonder if that cost us any extra as opposed to just one claim?

Any ideas?

    Sounds like nobody knows.

    Ask the insurance company - it can't do any harm and they may agree.

    Yes, contact the insurers concerned and get them to amend your history.

    When you have an unresolved (so at fault) claim to declare at renewal, you are always better off explaining this to the insurers at the time and getting some sort of confirmation from them that they will adjust the premium if when the matter is concluded your NCD is reinstated as a result of you being found not at fault.
  • Would seem a bit unfair otherwise. After all, as I've found out these things can take a long time to sort out...

    What was the full cost of the claim? You have still made a claim on your own policy if the third party did not pay the full amount.

    I have just had my insurer on the phone they wanted to adjust the premium up by £22. But added £25 for adjusting it so you might be no better off.

    My insurance company made a full recovery on the costs involved. A court case decided who was at fault.

    Therefore, they've had their money off the 2rd parties insurance company and I've had my excess back.
  • Great. Got a letter from Admiral telling me they;re gonna refund £48 for last years policy. Result...
