So the last big freeze had no affect on spending?

The last freeze will almost certainly had a material if short lived impact on GDP. It wouldn't surprise me if GDP is shown to have fallen in the current quarter when the figures come out, most likely in the middle of the election campaign.

Car sales did well in January apparently, another round of black ice could help sales after write offs. Bad news for insurance companies but they are close enough to banks for us not to mind.

Halfords also put out a statement saying they were selling more car bulbs and batteries due to the bad weather. AA/RAC getting more call outs. Anyone who went to the shops after Christmas would have found for the most part hats, gloves etc were not put in the sales. So I can definitely see how the weather has impacted on the economy - in both good and bad ways.

I for one invested in a new pair of wellies and some thick gloves. Got them day before it started to thaw. I`m ready and waiting to wear them.

same here!!! - we always see it on the news, but just have a sprinkling over these parts - If we get it I want serious disruption!!

We get the worst of both worlds, as we don't get the snow, but the schools shut (as it's a tad chilly)!!

Yer I wished for that last time around.

Then rejoiced for about 5 mins as we had a good few inches of snow on the ground.

Spent the next 4 days getting seriously irritated and wishing the blasted stuff would go away!

I'm a bit bah humbug about most things though it has to be said!
