Cheapest way to get Windows 7?

Am using XP on this HP Pavilion tx2000 laptop. I am finding it unstable, slow and a general nuisance TBH. I much prefer XP that is installed on my Dell Inspiron 1300 and also my Sammy NC10.
I am just thinking about dumping Vista and moving to W7 on this machine. Any advice on the cheapest way of doing it please?
Thank you.

You could pick up a copy in a store and then run off without paying for it or you could use torrents. Can't see a cheaper way.0

Install linux and just pretend its windows 7.[greenhighlight]but it matters when the most senior politician in the land is happy to use language and examples that are simply not true.

The impact of this is to stigmatise people on benefits,
and we should be deeply worried about that[/redtitle](house of lords debate, talking about Cameron)0 -

My bold
Either everyone is missing the point you made above, that you like one XP over another, or it's a major typo
One of the cheapest legal ways to get 7 is via one of the student schemes, either directly from the college/uni or via ms, next up is software4students with their ~£40 7 pro upgrade deal.
I really seem to be in the minority here, I have 5 machines in my house, 2 run XP (5 yr old laptop and similar age desktop), 2 run vista x64 (relatively new dual core) and just 1 runs 7 (quad). The machines I least like touching are the XP ones, I have no intention of switching the vista boxes to 7 because they're reasonably powerful machines and work well. I agree entirely with those who say vista, upon release, was carp (more importantly many machines sold with it were underspecced)..but it did get fixed!Utinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0 -

Vista even after many patches is bloat ware it runs slower and uses vastly more resources than 7, we are still currently on an xp platform for the 500 odd PCs we have and have tested vista and 7 on at least 20 of them, we like many companies rejected vista and stayed on XP but will roll over to 7 early next year.
On a personal note my PC when upgraded from vista to 7 increased its 3D mark by 27% !! I also have a 1gb of ram tablet that came with vista, I down graded it to XP as it was unusable with Vista but it runs fine with 7.0 -
I am just thinking about dumping Vista -implies ,clearly, a major typo.
OP didn't mention legality.0 -

If there are any students, school pupils or people who work in education in your household you could get an educational discount.
