Yeah, it wasn't so much that the top bed fell off, the part where the mattress sits on fell through - i dont remember too much about it, just the shock and stuff but pretty much put me off, parents keep telling me that i really dont want to be buying wooden ones! lol
thanks again for all the help guys,

I think the main things with bunk beds is to make sure they are assembled properly, so make sure you trust whoever is putting them together.0

I had wooden bunk beds for my two little doormats. My daughter also fell through the top one. It is the quality of the slats, as opposed to the structure of the actual bunk bed. I had to reinforce the slats with additional pieces of wood.We could all learn a little something from the weather. It pays no attention to criticism.0

We've just bought these (not from this seller...just used this link for pic and description). Nice solid bunks with good thick slats and a proper ladder - the sheer vertical ones are less safe and harder to climb. They separate into two nice looking singles for future flexibility too.

We bought these (though not from this seller) nearly 3 years ago. They are very solid and I think they offered the most headroom on the bottom bunk of all the sets we saw when looking around. I especially liked the ladder on this, we've left it loose so far so that we can put it on the top bunk to stop the little ones from playing on the ladder, but it can be permanently fixed.0 -
My twin sister and I had bunks till we were 18 years old. I think it was a ploy by my father to stop us bringing any boys home!!! We first got them when we were 3. Good solid pine ones. Never had any problems.
They were used as firewood when both of us moved out! It was a significant bonfire.
Wooden bunks all the way!0 -
I am worried about the slats. The bed i had as a kid had solid 2by4 type wood and we found that if there was a knot in the wood they had a tendency to snap at the knot. The bed dh and I have is a metal frame but has wooden slats which are bowed to give some degree of movement without just snapping - do the wooden bunk beds have these too, if i'm making any sence that is! lol

My DD has bunks from Ikea, she's 16 and sleeps on the top bunk.

Can't recommend any but my daughter sleeps on the pine bunkbed I had as a child. ( new mattress obviously) The other is in the spare room. They must be 25 years old and are still very sturdy. I would think the falling through incident must be very rare if they are well made.0
