Using NUS Card at PizzaHut

Options
Anyone tried to use their NUS card at Pizzahut to get the 20% off? They do various takeaway deals, and when I tried to use my card I was told the card cannot be used with any other offer. As far as I can see, this only relates to buffet, and not a takeaway offer they have. They do for £14 any large, garlic bread and a side. However, I was told they would only offer me the 20% off if I paid £15 for the pizza on its own (thats how much it was on the menu). Thus, making the 20% saving pretty pointless.

Cripes - that's expensive anyway. Why don't you just go to the supermarket, buy a pizza for £1 (morrisons and Asda do them), put some fresh vegetables on the top and that's much better for your money? :D

Strange, I've used my NUS at a few Pizza Huts on the deals, all you can eat buffet and even at the take-away only Pizza Huts.

I've never had the card declined at Pizza Hut, but it may just be the ones I go to that have their own policy.
Also I tend to go to Huts that have a large student 'throughput' and even student staff :)

But its usually best to ask before you order :)

  • In my three years as a student I must have had at least 20 different experiences with Pizza Hut staff handling my NUS discount!

My experiences range from being told 'the discount is only Monday-Thursday' on a Sunday afternoon (it's actually Sunday-Thursday!) to being told 'the discount doesn't apply after 6pm' (it applies all day Monday-Thursday!) to being told 'this isn't a valid NUS card' (it was a valid card!). Those are the bad experiences.

Sometimes I've been asked to sign the receipt and write my NUS number. Sometimes I've been asked to print the name of my university on the receipt. Sometimes I didn't have to write anything.

I've had good experiences too, such as once receiving a completely inexplicable 40 percent discount on the bill, rather than 20 percent!

Each Pizza Hut restaurant and each set of staff seems to have its own unique approach to NUS discounts! One thing that is consistent is that they generally refuse to recognise both the NUS discount and one of their 'offers' (such as buy one, get one half-price on pizzas and desserts) for the same bill. If you think you should receive a discount and your waiter comes out with nonsense (e.g. 'the discount only applies Monday-Thursday' - when it's Sunday-Thursday) you can usually successfully argue your point (once the waiter checks with the manager).

Use your NUS discount! Pizza Hut is a complete rip-off without it!

This is just franchisee's trying it on so they make more profit. Huuf and puff and blow the hut down if you should recieve something and you so not. Some times people see you as second class because they assess you as a student. Your money is as good as the next persons just you get a discount for being 'so poor' ;)

I still dress 'like a student' at times and the service I recieve is appaling at tiems comapred to if you were in a shirt and time.

For a fun experiance go to an exclusive London jewelery store in "student clothes" to buy your wife to be's wedding ring and after you have dragged the guy through every ring you want to see (even though you had already decided) and he has shot you a thousand "you cant afford this looks" Pay for the ring on your platinum debit card and smile as he looks in disbelief.

I always embarass my kids by flashing my NUS card whenever I buy anything. I'm not proud (I'm too skint)
