i woudl ask him if he would do a bank transfer as you would have his bank details if anything did go wrong so theoreticly report him to the police and contact your bank and his if anything did go wrong so they would be lookin in to it causing him grief. paypal imho isnt the best way - or ask him if he would accept a cheque from uk.

This is going to sound rude, but this is wrong on so many levels. 1) So you have his bank details - so what? Everybody I've ever given a cheque to has my bank details. Do you really think a bank cares one jot that you have a financial claim against someone? Pay him by a cheque? What sort of protection is that going to give? Yes, there are circumstances where the bank can "claw back" money after a cheque has cleared but they all relate to fraudulent instuments (e.g. the cheque was not signed by the account holder).

scan it after adding a few zeros at the end and have a laff

I work for TUI Group of Companies. My companies ATOL/ABTA numbers are 2524 / D5299. You should note that this site doesn't check my status as a Travel Agent, so you need to take my word for it but Atol numbers can be checked on the Civil Aviation Authority website.
