Fuming with Marks and Spencer

I am absolutely fuming with Marks and Spencer

My other half ordered a TV from them on the 15th of January, it was advertised in the paper and on the internet for £499. So he called them up, placed the order and paid with his Barclaycard. He gave them a delivery address and the billing address for the card. They then gave him a delivery date of the 2nd of February with an order reference.

I took a day off work on the 2nd of February and waited in for the TV, and lo and behold nothing arrived. We then phoned them and they said the order had been delayed as they did not have an email address?!?! (Were they going to deliver the TV by email?!!) He then gave them the email address and was told that the TV would now be delivered today.

So today I had my mum come to the house and wait for the TV to be delivered, yet again nothing has arrived. My partner then phoned them to find out what they were playing at, only to be told that the order was cancelled on the 19th of January. They have not given any reasoning for this, and I don't see how they could have failed to know this when they were contacted on the 2nd.

They have both our telphone numbers and also the address, and yet no one has phoned or written to say that the order has been cancelled.

Can anyone offer any advice on this please? Do we have any action of recourse with them?

Thanks.

I can think of one reason the order was cancelled - the tvs were recalled as defective.
I was going to say i would contact M&S - but of course you are going to do that! phone the bank and ask if moneys have been refunded (or go online if you bank online).
and check your email! is there an explanation lurking in your spam folder (if you dont normally get M&S emails it may have been diverted there!

Bad service - would complaint anyway if you took a day off work dont they have to pay you if your losing pay? Plus they might send you some vouchers as an apology so worth a go.
No you're not a vegetarian if you eat any animal or fish, so do not insult genuine veggies by calling yourself one!

M&S stock levels for products on their website are absolutely rubbish...If a product is out of stock, WHY do they still let your order it so you feel you are actually going to get it!
Then they mess you around with delivery dates and after waiting a few weeks you find your order has been cancelled! Mine was for some of the bargain things on offer at the time in "Claire 21"s thread that turned out to be out of stock!
I think an apology is not good enough for situations like these, they should really offer alternatives or NOT allow people to order what they don't have in the first place!
  • This isn't just any old complaint, it's an M&S complaint :D
sorry couldn't resist, hope you get it sorted
The advice I give on here is based on my many years in the preservation industry. I choose to remain anonymous, I have no desire to get work from anyone. No one can give 100% accurate advice on a forum if I get it wrong you'll get a sincere apology and that's all:D
