PPI reclaiming

I have a Lloyds TSB Plat card that I took out in 2003 and a PPI that has run along with it since taking out the card and at the time I made them fully aware that i was selfemployed and have been to date, Interest is acrued monthly on the outstanding balance, last year 2009 I was diagnosed with Myeloma (blood cancer) so I made enquiries with them about making a claim on the PPI, I was asked a number of questions over the phone and one question in particular made me think that i had been led to believe that in all the years that i had been making paments for this product i didnt fall within their criteria for making a valid claim. This question was "did I have proof of national insurance contributions" to prove that i was actually working up untill the time i was diagnosed with cancer. As this was never mentioned to me at the time I took out this insrance along with this card ....... was this product miss- sold to me and should i have been sold this product in the first place when i informed the bank i was selfemployed.

Did you actually pay NI contributions at all as this is usually a case of how you can get past the self employed and you would normally be covered? If you did not pay any class 2 contributions then you most probably were not earning enough or you only worked part time and you would be entitled to make a complaint if at the time of taking the Platinum Card you made them aware of your employment status in that you did not make contributions so would not be covered.
How did you take the card out? Was it online or over the phone or face to face.0 -

Hi Norman-N so sorry to hear of our myeloma I hope your treatment goes well.
We were asked by MBNA to prove hubby had been paying class 2 contributions (we were claiming because he was self employed) I sent bank statement showing his contributions and got letter from HMRC saying he was up to date with payments and when he started. We were awarded a refund. Sorry if this has added to your confusion.
Good Luck and let us know how you are getting on.;)0 -

right i got back at last after gettin booted umteen times .
Thanks all for your support right now down to business again lol
I didnt pay nat contributions because i didnt earn enougth to have to pay them .
I opened the plat account when I opened a current account at the branch in person with one of lloydss tsb's manager back in 2003 the palt card is a credit card by the way.
I also had a conversation in 2009 over the telephone when i enquired about making a claim on the insurance and I later recieved a letter together with the forms to fill in that outlined my conversation but this copy didnt contain the fact that i told their representative over the phone that i had said i didnt pay any nat contributions thanks for your help again0 -

if you were not paying ni contributions, then you couldn't possibly claim on the insurance - therefore, it's useless to you and has been mis sold. You need to start your claim on this basis !right i got back at last after gettin booted umteen times .
