Scotia Gas want all my details to pass on to my current supplier?
Options
Just had a guy at the door from Scotia Gas (formerly TransCo in Scotland) claiming that they own my meter (they might) and saying that he needed all my details and for me to sign a form so that he could pass those details back on to my energy supplier which in turn would lower my gas bill, anyone heard of this, and is there any truth to it?

Probably a salesman from one of the energy companies. Presumably, he would get you to sign a form asking to switch providers. He would then take over your supply without your permission.
Did you sign anything?0 -
No, I didn't sign anything, it just seemed too suspicious, so I asked him to come back another time0

Did you show him any bills? This is another common trick that they use in order to get your details.0

Scotia Gas Networks don't do that kind of work as far as I'm aware (and they dont own all the meters either). When the guy returns ask him for ID....bet he's from one of the suppliers and trying to get your details...write down his name and give the company he REALLY works for a call. Give them stink for bad sales tactics and report him for miss selling.0

As above posts suggest, this is absolute rubbish and it was almost definately a salesman (probably from scottish hydro at a guess)
Do not sign anything at the door and if he comes back keep him at the door while you phone the number above, if its all above board (which it doesnt sound like) he will have no problem waiting for you to phone and check.
Ask for ID too, if it says anything other than Scotia Gas then get rid of him and report him to both companies (making sure you get a note of his name)Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!0 -
Dear all,
My name’s Nick Hemsley and I am a spokesperson for Scotia Gas Networks.
Allow me to explain the work we do. To clarify, we are not an energy supplier. We are a gas supply network operator, delivering gas throughout Scotland and in the south and south-east of England.
We do own meters and occasionally 'call out'. Sometimes we need to check details. However, we would never ask a customer to sign a form, and we would never pass details on to an energy supplier with a view to the supplier offering a cheaper deal.
Mr Prosser's experience with the caller does seem odd. Please be assured that all our staff carry identification - in the form of badges. If you’re unsure of the identity of the caller, by all means ask to see their badge. Should you wish to call the number on the badge, please do so.
Anyone requiring further information or advice should call our Customer Service team - on 0845 070 1432 if Scotland-based, and 0845 070 1431 if living within our Southern catchment area.
Yours sincerely,
Nick Hemsley
