We had roast beef for Sunday dinner. We're going on a day trip on Thursday and I was hoping to take the leftovers as my sandwiches then. It's currently covered in the fridge, will it still be safe to eat? If not I'll just cook it into something and freeze it but I want it on my sandwiches
sorry if this is a stupid question, we don't usually have roast beef in fact I've not had it for about 5 years and then it all got eaten up not saved :eek:Official DFW Nerd Club - Member #398 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts :T

I certainly keep sliced gammon joints for that long - and longer - for sandwiches, so I think I'd be happy with that. It's just that here roast beef leftovers usually get used next day! Wonder how long the joints of cooked beef are kept in shops where they're sliced as cold meat?Resolution:

if you are unsure, slice it up ready for your sandwiches and freeze it with maybe grease proof paper inbetween to help seperate, take it out wednesdays evening and it will be defrosted ready to make sandwiches thursday morning. or ive noticed that alot of people on this site make and freeze the whole sandwich of which beef is ideal to do, even with mustard or pickle on it.xOne day I will live in a cabin in the woods0

thank you
I think I'll slice it up and pop it in the freezer just to be safe! I've made and frozen cheese sandwiches before but there were complaints about bread sogginess which makes me cautious of that!

There is some beef in the fridge from sunday roast...it's now friday and I really don't wana chuck it away. Will it be safe to eat? As much as I don't wana waste it, I don't wana poison everyone so I'm thinking it might be better to chuck it away and count it as a lesson and make sure I use it at the start of the week next time? It's not LOADS anyway, just hate chucking food away0

3 or 4 days to be honest - it's probably better to chuck it unfortunately!~Be true to your work, your word, and your friend~0

You will know when beef has gone - but its usually 5 days max. Its rancid by smell and taste (sometimes taste only the day before it smells! experience )

Provided it doesnt smell off I'd use it and we have our beef rare. SO long as its cooked again properly.
Tomorrow I'll be doing something with the leftover lamb from Sunday :cool:Mortgage, we're getting there with the end in sight £6587 07/23, otherwise free of the debt thanks to MSE help!0 -
