Dear all,
I am in a bit complex situation and I need your help guys.
My car is in London with a broken rear bumper (right corner, tightly secured with sellotape).I need to drive this car to Devon for body work as the garage in London is giving a very high quote.
My car is completely drivable.I have got my up to date MOT and insurance.
Can I drive this car from London to Devon? Can the police stop and fine me?
Thanks in advance.

For total clarity why dont you ring the police and ask them, not 999 just the local desk. Have you also thought about using a recovery agent?
Be careful of risk to other road users. ie no sharp protruding edges. Sellotape would be hardly sufficient to hold a bumper, especially in the rain. Try gaffer or duct tape0 -
We had a car that we moved from our mechanic to the bodyshop which had no bumper at all on it, both garages assured me that a bumper isnt actually a legal requirement, maybe you could ask an MOT garage or check current MOT guidelines.0

as long as the bumper is secure then yes you can drive it,but as suggested use gaffer tape or cable tiesI

Surely to drive to Devon and back is going to cost you about £50 in petrol.
Would it not be cheaper to find another garage closer to home, unless you are getting mates rates in Devon.
When I had a loose bumper on a car on one corner, I just secured it with a couple of bolts. The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.0
