Just had a phone call

Just had a phone call from 0844 544 7062, saying I've been miss-sold payment protection on my credit cards. I did have payment protection on them about 3 years ago for about 1 year, I spent about £40 on it.

I didn't catch the name of the company, something like SSBC (probably nothing like that but he spoke very fast like he wanted to get on with it!)

I asked "are you some sort of goverment agency" and he said "yes". I told him now was not a convenient time to speak.

I haven't applied to get any money back and this guy just phoned out of the blue, anyone got any views on this??

If you are asking if you should go ahead if they ring again I would say to just tell them IF you had any PPI that you needed to reclaim you would do it yourself and try to take their name and report them to MOJ for cold calling.

    Hi there

I would be very wary of these claims companies, they will charge you, where you can do this yourself all free apart from the posting within the postal office, and you get to keep all your PPI etc.

For more on reclaiming with guidelines here:

And you can always check on these claim companies through the Minsitry of Justice (MOJ) here:

However, please do ask for help if you require this with reclaiming, good luck.;)

1 - how did they know your details (the info is not in the public domain)?

2 - how do they know you were mis-sold?
I asked "are you some sort of goverment agency" and he said "yes". I told him now was not a convenient time to speak.

Thats a downright lie as there is no company with any link to the Government making such calls or claims.
anyone got any views on this??

They have your details illegally. They are cold calling against the rules. They are telling you that you are mis-sold without knowing the facts and they misrepresented themselves as some official body.

Do you really think you should be dealing with a company like that?

  • cheers guys, I thought it sounded a bit iffy when he rang.

If they ring again I'll be sure to get the company details and then tell them where to go!

I think the poster actually stated they did not have PPI other than a year and at a total cost of £40 and seems like they actually cancelled it to be fair.

These companies that just ring up out of the blue are just chancers hoping to make a buck or two and actually telling people that have got, or had, PPI to claim misselling when they have no cause to make a complaint is why they are so wrong. I agree with dunstonh on that.
