Why is MS office now saying it is not a genuine copy?

Since I had a virus on my computer and ran a lot of programs to get rid of it I keep getting a message saying my copy of MS office is not genuine. Any ideas why and how I can stop it?
Thanks

Maybe uninstalling/reinstalling it would sort it out.0

This happened to us at the University, one of the reasons was because the license keys needed renewing due to some update by Microsoftbarriejohn69 wrote: »Since I had a virus on my computer and ran a lot of programs to get rid of it I keep getting a message saying my copy of MS office is not genuine. An alternate solution you'd have to Google, but I believe you can modify a file which Microsoft Update applies to correct the issue. have you tried running detect and repair, I'm sure that fixed it tooOwner of andrewhope.co.uk, hate cars and love them

Did you buy it through Microsoft, or a boxed retail edition from a shop or was it preinstalled on your machine?0

It was preinstalled on my machineI would like to thank everyone who contributed to the Ramada/Days Inn BRG thread.0

In which case you probably just need to re-enter the license key which also came with the machine.0

I'd contact the shop (assuming it was bought from one) and get them to look into it
Sounds to me like it's been a dodgy copy, or a non retail type jobbie. As I mentioned, at the University we did have a legitimate license key for Office Enterprise, but some Microsoft update applied and it was no longer valid. So we had to get a new one
One suggestion, there is a file you can delete from the registry, it forces you to re-enter the key for Office on the machine.
It was a Windows Update addon that caused the message to appear, was related to the WGA softwareOwner of andrewhope.co.uk, hate cars and love them

Of course the other possibility is that it was a trial and has now expired.0

In the contents of the box you should have received a Certificate of Authenticity possibly shrink wrapped with the disc, which should contain your product key. You'll need that to contact Microsoft in order to get the situation resolved.0 -
Last question I promise. Once I find the key how or where can I re enter it?
I think I've sorted it. Clicked validate on the MS website and no results or anything came up however when I open a document I am not getting the message. Touch woodI would like to thank everyone who contributed to the Ramada/Days Inn BRG thread.0 -

The messages are weird, they only appear once
There is a way of doing it, you deleting a registry key on the computer and it prompts the program to setup the installation of itself again where you can enter the office keyOwner of andrewhope.co.uk, hate cars and love them
