What is income and what isnt??

Options
Ok can anyone help student finance finally come up with an assesment and here are the details

Single mum currently claims child tax credit and housing/council tax benefit.

Student finance--- Maintenance Loan £3564.00 Basic Loan
Maintenance Loan £1469.00 Plus Income assesment
Loan total £5033.00

Then Special Support Grant £2906.00
Parent Learning Allowance £1508.00

Ok so she wants to know what is classed as income in terms of what does she need to tell Child Tax and Housing benefit people is income and what is not declarable. She seems to think not all of it needs to be declared as income. She is worried as it has taken so long she will have a heap of back benefit to pay back. Any help appreciated as my knowledge is zero.

Hope that makes sense.

If you're entitled to it and don't take it out, it still gets counted.

Just declare everything you receive and they will ignore anything that isn't counted, rather than risk overpayment.
  • Yes i will make sure she declares it all, just wanted an idea as the local authority has a dreadful reputation of not knowing what it is doing and i have a feeling she could end up with an incorrect assesment ( wouldnt be the first time). thanks again
  • if you're concerned that you won't be assessed correctly, take your paperwork to the uni advice service for them to check over for you, they will also be able to provide additional evidence for the council if needed.
