Town changes affecting my property, compensation for everything and how to do it?

People complain that the countries transport and housing infrastructure is crap yet whenever the government tries to do anything about it people still complain. Oh well.
It doesnt mean the council is always right, they do sometimes make mistakes.
In some ways it would be nice to see the town updated but its all costing a lot of money and might not even work. They are trying to encourage people to come to our town to shop so are pedestrianising it and creating the relief road but the relief road is creating its own problems by being built in a particular area which is occupied mainly by disabled and elderly people who will have great difficulty actually getting to the padestrianised area at all because they have to go over the bypass. Plus the bypass goes directly to the big tescos just outside the town so it will probably bring more buisiness to tescos than anything else and they have no problems anyway. Then the road carries on to another town a couple of miles down the road which is where people are going to now instead of this one so its just making it even easier for people to cut out our town rather than stop and get off. If they want to do it there might be better ways of doing certain thingsThanx

I cant believe it, I just looked up the councils number and its an 0844 one they have changed it. It doesnt seem right that a council should have these numbers that they make money onThanx

I don't think they make money on 0844 numbers, I know they don't on 0845 numbers. Using the 0844 number means if there is a problem with the phones they can put them through to a different landline and you can still get through using the same number.0

have you tried putting this 0844 number into www.saynoto0870.com and see if there is an alternative landline number for the council... there is bound to be be one...0

In certain circumstances if a property is "blighted" i.e. is very seriously affected by loss of land and impact of nearby road scheme the owner can force the acquiring authority to purchase the whole property at a value which would not reflect the devaluation caused by the road. But I don't think your situation is bad enough for this.
When the council definitely want to proceed with the scheme they will write to you. You will need to appoint a chartered surveyor to deal with your compensation and I suggest you choose a reputable local firm who deals with land compensation. Their fees will be paid by the council.
There is very comprehensive legislation on compulsory land acquisition and compensation which your surveyor should be well aware of.If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0 -
Thanks I rang another number I found on the net and he gave me the number of a man he thought might be able to help from the Transport & Environmental Programmes Communities Department at the council. Hes coming to see me next week to have a proper look at the house and speak to me about things, I didnt even ask he just said he would. The council have been writing to me on occasions for a few years but they don't really say much apart from the plans are available to view at the libraryThanx
