    Hi

I'm also thinking of doing the same thing and found a leaflet in homebase about Dulux's range of Feature wall papers. It looks pretty useful, you may not like their wall paper patterns but it gives you some ideas and suggestions of their coordinating paints etc. There is a web link to dulux.co.uk/featurewallpaper but haven't had chance to look at it yet.

Excellent stuff cb101, I've been on the Dulux site but hadn't come across that section so will have a look in a bit :)
  • I offer a tip from someone who has papered and painted for too many years but have recently been doing feature walls for my son. When I did his kitchen, the featured paper had an almost black background. Though I took great care to butt all the paper seems, inevitably, some shrinkage occured and in a couple of places, you could see the newly painted white surface of the wall. My son then spent a happy (not) hour or two witha black felt-tip pen.

So, having just done his bedroom, and with the feature paper being mid grey, I used some grey matt emulsion on that wall and hey presto, eliminated the risk of white showing through (sod's law though meant that this time, the paper didn't shrink).

    May prove useful for some?

    Happy days.

Definitely something I didn't think of, cheers phil, Still sanding and polishing the walls to get it as smooth as possible
  • hi- we did the same in our bedroom and it looked wonderful (depending on one's taste of pattern of course!). We used cheap lining paper for the other three walls and painted white, the feature wall was a swirly Habitat design. If you are going to spend a lot on the paper then I would recommend getting a professional in to paper that one wall - we did the other walls ourselves and they were, quite frankly, dreadful! We offset the expense of getting someone in for one wall against doing the whole room in expensive paper.
Coincidently, today I was in my local Habitat and the v expensive wall paper paste they recommended for their paper was reduced from £8 a tub to £1.33 Yes I know it's not very MS but after shelling out a lot on wallpaper we didn't dare risk not getting the recommended wallpaper paste.

Sorry for lengthy post! To nutshell it:
go for it but get a pro to do the feature wall
