Need an "old" plumber! in Leeds, who has worked with lead for many years.

Hi

Got a leaking lead pipe and apart from ripping up a fully tiled bathroom floor we need to try and solder, mend, fix, join the lead pipes or work some magic with them.

A couple of younger plumbers have taken a look but they only want to rip the whole bathroom floor up and replace all the lead with plastic.

The bathroom floor is a decent size coupled with the fact that the same tiles are on the bathroom walls so we dont want to rip them all up unless we really have to.

Ideally looking for a plumber who many years ago served his apprenticeship in lead and knows all the tricks of the trade to give us a plan B.

Ideally north Leeds, but would pay for someones time from further afield.

Thanks

Rich

You should get them replaced, theres a reason why they don't use lead anymore

If you need it repair if you can get access to both ends of the pipe. then run a pipe along the skirting line/ You can either get skirting that covers the piping.

Assuming it's upstairs?? Can you not gain access from the ceiling below it?

Probably much easier to make good afterwards?

We have recently inherited them in a house we have moved into and yes we would love to have a plastic waste pipe but as per the orignal post it will cost thousands to do this.

Its not that easy, its on our lower floor, but we live on a first floor, with an apartment below us, so it would be their ceiling that would need to come down and as you can imagine they are not too keen!

We can only see/access the central part of the pipe the rest is not acessible without structural damage.

If it’s a waste pipe there are no health implications and so no need to replace it.

As it will be running at very low pressure you can probably do a temporary/semi permanent fix with gaffer tape or similar.

I used the aluminium type on a pipe at my MIL and it was still water tight 5 years later when she moved out.
