Cable tv - tuning tv to non cable channels

A colleague of mine has cable tv. She wants to watch regular tv while recording one of the cable channels.
I had heard somewhere that as well as the cable signbal her cable connection will also provide the basic analogue channels which she can tune her tv into separately form the 'cable tv' channel.
Is this correct? I have sky so can't test this for her?

I think you misunderstand the question.
I want to know if she can tune her tv into terrestrial analogue tv via the cable box.Fortune's always hiding, I've looked everywhere......0 -
i used to do it before i went digital. It was a few years ago but as
you said you can tune the TV into the standard analogue channels.
They may have been on different frequencies (i dont remember) but they
were there.

It's called a 'digital passthrough'. If you search for that term in this: http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/forumdisplay.php?f=11 the NTL\Telewest forum you will see lots of discussions about it. You will need to tell your friend to make it plain at the time of ordering the service that this is required as some boxes don't have this facility. It's like a small black box the size of a matchbox that plugs onto the back of the decoder it has a standard 'Female' aeriel socket on the back, or at least mine does.
HTHIt could have been worse. At least source code's not combustible, or you can bet somebody at McAfee would have lit it.0
