Will do Heinz....0808 numbers i guess are free on the 'M' package phone with Virgin?
    Yes, 0500, 0800 and 0808 numbers.

I have read on here of a number of people using 18185 in that way to circumvent Virgin's call charges.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
  • Thanks Heinz that is great!

Hi all...just moved in...all unpacked now (thank god!).Looks like callsdiscounts have pulled plug on geaographic acces numbers for france (now 0843...10 a min on virgin!)...seems to me that 18185 using 0808 free access is best-4p connection 2p a minute (she only rings twice a week for 20 mins time)....first telecom with their plug in dialer looks best for geographic calls-0 connection & 1.6p uk national peak & 0.8 off-peak.

Does anyone know of a cheaper way to dial france (landline) with virgin media? I've hunted the e but cant't find any geographic access numbers...thanks if anyone can help!

Edit....Looked at the TELETOP site http://www.teletop.co.uk/rates.php -on BT you dialed 0911-033 2525 (£1-50 a call) then free to frence l/lines-5 p connection till credit runs out....now on VIRGIN the premium code number is a HUGE £149-99 (NOT KIDDING! http://allyours.virginmedia.com/pdf/003669_Residential_Cable_Jan_v5.pdf code is FF21) to connect-HOW can they justify this?

Any of you technical guys know a way to circumvent this....as we have free weekend calls (teletop provide a uk geographic 0207 number) this option if it was simply a £1-50 call (then 5p off for each call made) this would cover our weekend calls to France for a good few months.....any ideas?

EDIT EDIT-Sorry guys-guess the 149-99 is 149.99 PENCE (!) will check with Virgin....if so then it's STILL just £1-50 & 5p connection charge (at weekends when call charges are FREE for Uk geographic & 0 pence per call for any duration)....so think this may be the answer for weekend french calls...will post back after I've called virgin...

Hi guys....just did the premium rate (£1-50) call with topupnow-5 p connection zero call charges, so means 30 phone calls to france for £1-50!!! & a virginmedia freephone number 0808 - 1700 123 so we can call in the week!

They seem to use the 020 3347 3399 number periodically as a 'come on' and then pull it presumably in the hope that previous users will just dial the recommended alternative (I assume there's a recorded announcement on the 020 3347 3399 number for most destinations).
