I live in a 3 bedroom terrace with heating turned off in 2 of the bedrooms and my gas is £120 per month...I have a card meter but this seems very high compared to yours...my combi boiler is less than 3 years old
You can negate paying so much in winter by building up credit on the prepayment meter or by placing it in a savings account.
either way this method allows you to budget evenly over the year and makes life a little easier for those who can't get credit meters or those who detest direct debits like me:)

As we are over £200 in credit and have mostly been this in the 15 odd months we've been with BG for gas and electric, could we ask for a refund? Or it it a case of a refund or very low direct debit payments?

It just seems pointless having 200 quid in the BG bank. Would always want about 50 just to be safe but that seems alot? Thanks all.

They'll need an actual meter reading to check the actual status of the account.
