Help with getting a cheque... not the refund off the balance!

Hi,
I was recently lucky enough to be refunded with my PPI from Halifax. However they just took it all off the balance of the credit card, which was ok because obviously that's less debt for me to pay back! However I'm now trying to get my credit card charges back, and I'm predicting this is going to be around £1000-£1500, how do I get them to give me the money back, instead of taking it off the balance? I'm obviously going to pay off debt with most of it, but I want to be able to split it between all creditors instead of just Halifax getting their greedy little paws on all of it. Is there any way of getting around this?
Any advice is much appreciated
Thanks
Steph

You can’t.
If you get a refund, it will be credited to your balance (presuming your balance is larger than the refund). It will only put your account into the position, as if the charge had never happened (charge and refund cancel each other out).
If, after the refund, there is a positive balance, that you can get as a cheque.0
