Pulling my hair out with car insurance!!!

No need to pull your hair out
You already have a quote from another company for basically last year's amount so switch!
Vote with your feet. I have only twice stayed with the same company for more than 1 year in the last 10 years and that was because either they were still the cheapest or the difference was less than 10 quid

Oh don't worry, I will be swapping. However with 1 years extra NCB and an older car, and me being a year older I would still expect it to go down. Its staying relatively the same, but I have had to accept a slightly higher voluntary excess.
Every year since I have been driving my insurance has gone down except this year and its annoying! Is a sufferer of SAD, so don't blame me, blame the depressing English weather!!!:beer:0 -
Just shop around every year. They run the 1st year as a loss leader in many cases.Happy chappy0

The quickest most effective method to getting the cheapest online quote is to follow the process outlined on this site under insurance.
That way there is no need to plug in your details to 20 online sites - just maybe 5 in total.
Its well worthwhile!0 -

I rarely buy the " cheapest " insurance anyway, it is service based product, I always go for best value with an insurer that hopefully I can trust.;)0 -
That may well give a list of some of the " cheapest " but not all of them.

It gives by far the bulk of them as it uses the principle that the right combination of cashback sites cover 99% of the insurance companies out there - have a read at the article - and then you're potentially into the realm of vastly diminishing returns, ie, you could spend 5 hours finding a company that £1 cheaper, only to find you've never heard of them and dont want to risk using them.
I rarely go for the "cheapest" either, but i do then use the "cheapest" to beat my local family owned broker with and 9 times out of ten he can play ball. Often i find its one of the big players who are the "cheapest" as they are effectively trying to buy market share and then bump up the premiums the next year. (hence why its important to check every year)0 -
I posted this thread a while back http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=1417745 even though in this year I haven't needed to claim, I'm glad I didn't go with them based on other people's experiences. I went with one that cost about £50 more instead.0

Generally after about 5-6 yeras of NCD it doesnt matter if you add more years, you wont get any more discount for years 6,7,8,9 etc. I had a 65% discount at 5 years NCD and seem to get the same now at 12 years NCD. I've got an 05 Mini Cooper Chilli, aged 29, decent insurance postcode and paying only slightly less than your paying Directline.
I just swap back and fore between Privilege and Churchill each year taking the new customer online price, these 2 always seem to be cheapest for me now.0
