Taking your own bags to the grocery store

For those of you out there who are Tesco shoppers, Tesco has just introduced a new scheme where if you bring your own shopping bags, you receive an extra Club Card point per bag. We always bring our own bags, and since the scheme was introduced we did our shop last week, using 4 of our own bags, and got 4 extra points! Every bit helps . . .
Ask in store if you are not offered the points for using your own bags - they should honour this.

Great Idea, and thanks for posting this. I usually use mine for bin liners, but that doesn't really help with recycling or the enviroment.

thanks for the info...i was shopping in tescos on friday... and no signs or anything.... is there anywhere on their website saying about this.....just incase sa dosent know about it....you could also blag a few extra points by spreading the shopping into some more bags....i have started trying to make some shopping bags out of old clothes/material around the house....even though i have bought some of the bags for life things...and i have a nice shopper bag that was bought for me.....
is it only me but...when you take yuor own bags do you feel that they look at you in a diff way.....Work to live= not live to work0 -
I always have to ask the cashier to wait til I've unloaded the shopping before they start scanning items and I take 4 bags for life with me for the heavier stuff like the milk and they always look at me as if I have two heads or something.
I'll have to check on the extra points thing before I do my shopping tomorrow but I doubt they'll know about it, mind you as long as they take all my money off vouchers I don't really mind

Do you also get points for using the *bag for life* bags?0

I always take a M & S black fabric bag, don't think I've had extra points as yet but I will certainly ask the next time I'm in.

same here messeytessie....they look at me strange....especially with the loose fruit and veg.... i dont normally put them in bags.. so when i am packing them when they have gone through the til they will all go in one bag... the sa normally ties putting them into the small bags , and when i say no its ok... they just look blankly at me.......its my money off coupons is my main aim at the mo.... but the extra points will come in handy...i have £73. on there at the mo..so thats £292 in deals......so i look at it at all angles of savingWork to live= not live to work0

I take my own bags to all the supermarkets as I am trying not to get any plastic carrier bags. A lot of the SAs do look at you a bit funny but I usely say something about having too many carrier bags already and then they laugh and agree.0

Hi,
I heard about this last Friday (somewhere on this site) took my bags to Tescos with me as always, but the sales assistant didn't know anthing about the extra points for customers' own bags and customer services were shut for the night. I was in again today and asked at customer services who denied all knowledge of this scheme! Has anyone found anything on their website about this? I've had a look, but haven't found anything yet.

I'll try this too. I always take my own bags - emblazoned with Waitrose! You get a lovely set of bags free if you register for shop and scan (you need a JL card though) in Waitrose and all the self scan brigade use them instead of carriers. The best things in life are NOT free - but they sure are cheaper with MSE!:j0
