Prepay Meters

I was on a prepayment meter for electricity in my previous house and I have just recieved a final bill for £52. Has anyone else had bills for a prepayment meter as this has baffled me completely? I had only been with that company for 4 months so somehow they are charging me over £10 per month on top of the top ups I put onto my key.0

I love my prepayment meters..... I actually had the credit ones removed for prepayment.
When I said I was on them at work I think people thought I was poor which is quite the reverse. I just like prepaying and then limiting my use to make the credit go further. It's amazing with careful use how far I can make £10 stretch on the meter.
I am on Ebico and find it reasonably priced.0 -
If you are a vaguely organised person an energy payment card is a much better bet than a PPM. You cannot be self-disconnected, so no mad rush to the local shop at midnight, leaving the kids in bed alone. You can spread your payments and even vary them to suit your income each week/fortnight. Don't pay those grossly inflated unit rates for PPMs.0

The prices are the same for PPMs and payment cards. You are correct with the other advantages.0 -
I'm on a prepayment meter for both Gas and electric (with British Gas), I'm on their Essentials Tarrif and as far I know I don't pay a higher price for being on a meter. I do as another poster said, I pay the same each fortnight on my prepayment cards, (in the summer, when I only use about £1.50 gas per week), and then in winter I am always ahead of myself and can afford to put on the heating.
I've been on prepayment meters for approx 15 years, and I think it's a brilliant way to budget, I never have a bill, and as I'm paying up front I'm much more careful and aware of how much I'm spending.KEEP CALM AND keep taking the tablets :cool2:0
