Big names hiding as own brands

Tried to get this one going a few weeks ago but posted in the wrong area. Never mind.........
We all know that supermarkets buy many of their own brand products from the big name manufacturers, and that sometimes there's no difference between the branded product and the own brand except the pretty wrapping.
How about a board to identify these products?
I used to work at a bakery in Manchester called Jesse Oldfields and we supplied cakes to Asda, Tesco, Morrisons and others as well as the brands such as Bronte that they owned themselves. Very often there was no difference in the product, just the packaging and the price!
Whaddayathink??????????

I think this is a great idea.
I would love to know for sure who makes what for which company.
I'd also like to know if cheaper quaity parts or ingredients are used for the cheaper brands.Herman - MP for all!0 -
I worked for a company that made cottage cheese for the big (ish) stores.
No difference apart from M&S had less salt, but if there was a rush on, the same cheese was packed until the vat was empty, then M&S's own formula filtered through.
Must have been crates of the stuff supplied to M&S that was meant for others.
(There'd have been big trouble if they'd found out though)

Nice idea. I personally don't think you could justify a whole board dedicated to the idea, but certainly a 'sticky' thread where people could share their 'insider knowledge.'0
