How fast is your ADSL2+ broadband router?

Interesting little article for those of you who may be upgrading to ADSL2+ this year. Quite substantial speed differences in currently available routers.

I'm thinking about buying a Netgear router.

  • The one thing significant about this survey is that it was done on Be's LLU service and the one router they omitted to check was the one Be supply for use on their service - the Thomson TG585v7. So in reality it is a pretty useless survey. Being the Be network, used also by O2 which I am on, it has little bearing on what you will get with a BT Wholesale 21CN ISP which will have its own characteristics and variations between routers.

For those with good fast lines it may give guidance if you want to use a non-ISP supplied router. But if you are currently only getting 3Mbs on standard ADSL don't expect much more on ADSL2+ whatever router you use.

The router speed is hardly ever the limiting factor on the speed of your connection
