Drained radiators after leak, now we have cold ratiators.

Hi,
We had a leak under the floor boards in our bedroom, so my partner drained the system & repaired the leak.
The water was then turned back on, I switched the heating on 5 hours ago, we have hot water but all radiators are stone cold (they have all been bled).
It is a back boiler system, any ideas of what could cause this, Thankyou.

Silly question but have you checked that the radiators have water in them?

After he had refilled them I assume?
The boiler set to hot water and heating as opposed to just hot water?

    Sorry just stating the obvious

Do you have a three way valve in the airing cupboard? (can`t remember the name of the valve sorry)

If you do have a look at the little black lever that sticks out of the side and see what letter its next to.

We drained the system twice and after both times the valve had stuck, may not be your problem but worth checking.

Mines in the airing cupboard near the cylinder. I have a back boiler too so am assuming its similar

  • Mines under the floorboards near the fire and back boiler. Not sure all systems are the same. So carn't give you a definate answer where yours is.

  • Found this info.............

If you still have no luck, your pump may be the problem. The pump is like a mini water-mill; it takes the heated water from the boiler and forces it down the flow pipe to take it to either the taps or the radiators. There could be a blockage here or the pump might not be working properly. This is also powered on electricity. So turn off the power to the pump, have a little look and see if there is any obvious sign of a problem. If it looks like a mud-pie down there, give it a good clean.
    Step 4
Air can become trapped in the pump area. Look for a small nut (usually metal) which can be turned to vent excess air. When all the air is out and dirty water starts staining your jeans, stop! Turn the pump back on and see if it starts moving properly.red-pump.jpg
