Any ideas re. cleaning inside a motorcycle helmet?

Hubby has given up his motorbike and wants to sell his crash helmet - but its a bit grim inside and needs a good clean. Its greasy from his hair and sweat (yuk!) and the inside panels don't remove - so its a damp cloth job, but what's best to use to remove some of the grease without soaking the padding - and what will have it smelling better at the end of it all?

Try Stardrops as it seems to work with most things ,on a microfibre cloth of course0
-
could try bicarbonate of soda rubbed in and then vacuumed off.
My OH uses a liner in his which you can remove and wash.0 -
I use a weak solution of baby shampoo and "foam" up the insides, using as little water as possible, Rinse well and leave to dry for as long as possible (usually a day or two) in the airing cupboard.
I would be wary of using a cleaner like Stardrops - I've no idea how harsh it is and you want to be very careful with the insides of a motorcyle helmet.0 -
You could try Batiste dry shampoo. You can buy it from Boots. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Baby wipes, value ones of course, are good for cleaning without getting things too wet. Will get rid of grease.0

Right, I shall mount an assault on the stinky crash helmet of doom, armed with shampoo (which I would never have thought of, but its so obvious!), microfibre cloths, baby wipes, bicarb and a vacuum cleaner.
I may be some time!
Thanks everyone - great suggestions!

I know what you mean, Thriftlady! I know my parents were mighty relieved when I gave up my bike and got a car - but then, if I could afford it, I'd love to have a bike as well. But then, on the other hand, I used to worry like mad every time DH went out on his bike. God forbid our DS ever gets the bug!
