If it was a job working with children or vulnerable people, it would be an enhanced CRB, not a standard CRB. The reason one is being requested for this job is probably because you could gain access to confidential records and because you are a keyholder at a place that has such records.

I think there is still a problem with a standard disclosure as they show spent convictions and under the rehabilitation of offenders act this information can only be disclosed in certain circumstances. I don't think working as a cleaner in a charity shop would warrant be exempted from the rehabilitation of offenders act.

You actually sign to say the role is exempted from the rehabilitation of offenders act. Can't think of the exact wording but I think I have some forms in my bag so I will go and have a look.

The registered person signs a declaration which states,
"I certify that this application is for the purpose of asking an emexpted question under the terms of The Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exemptions) Order 1975 and is made in accordance with all relevant legislation." There are then details about the documentation and it finishes with "understand that to knowingly make a false statement for this purpose is a criminal offence."

So I think a registered person signing an application for a a non exempted question could be commiting a criminal offence. I recruit people to work with children and vulnerable adults so I do obtain enhanced disclosures for carers and standard for other roles but I don't believe employers are actually entitled to do this for any role.

    Here is a link http://www.crb.homeoffice.gov.uk/guidance/rb_guidance/eligible_posts.aspx
to the list of positions that are exempted from the rehabilitation of offenders act. I can't see any mention of cleaning in a charity shop. Or handling cash in a shop.
