A&L Payment Review Fee - Item Paid - Refunded

Had one of these applied to my account on 1st Feb, and managed to get it refunded.

On phoning A&L to enquire as to why this has happened, they confirmed that it was because a £260 DD went out + £50 card payment, and I only had £330 in the bank (not including £250 overdraft).

Do the maths = £260 + £50 isn't more than my £330, and isn't more than my balance + overdraft!

On telling them this, they then suggested that a cheque from a few days previous hadn't cleared, so my balance wasn't £330 (talk about changing their tune as they go along).

Whilst the payment review fee and cheque clearance times are in their T&C's, I could see no figures on their online banking to give me a 'cleared' balance and 'uncleared' balance, which I suggested to A&L wasn't acceptable.

They refused to budge on the issue until I requested to speak to a supervisor, as we were going round in circles and making no progress. Within 1 minute of holding the same person came back on the phone, promised a supervisor would phone back (which they did 20 minutes later), and also said that she would refund the £25 immediately - apparantly A&L account holders are entitled to one 'gratuity' refund every 12 months against charges (first I've heard of this).

Might be useful information for others in a similar position.

There is "available balance" on the on-line screen which is what it says it is, your available money to spend.

Correct - but the available balance included the apparantly 'uncleared' cheque (which would have only cleared today + hasn't suddenly changed said available balance), hence my original issue with them.
