I have a domain name and i think i can get hosting, but i need some software to build my website with. Does anyone know of anything that's free or really cheap?
I tried googling, but of course any time you type "free" it's a bloomin minefield!
Thanks in advance!

Choose WebPlus SE for the free edition.
If you like, you can upgrade to a much better version (X2) for relatively little. Then, in time, you could upgrade to the latest (and best) version (X4) for about £50-60.

DOWNLOAD NVU
Microsoft Windows - Full Installer (.exe)
This executable will install Nvu on a windows platform and integrate the software into the operating system shell (start menu, desktop icons, quick launch etc.). It is ideal for users who wish to associate system html files with an editor of choice.

About Nvu
Nvu (pronounced "N-view," for a "new view") is a free, open source software program that allows you to build websites and web pages using a simple WYSIWYG editor (what-you-see-is-what-you-get). Nvu makes creating web pages as easy as using a word processor and rivals such programs as Adobe's Dreamweaver and Microsoft's Expression Web, only for free! With Nvu's built-in site manager, connecting to your website and making changes is a snap.

I would recommend http://www.coffeecup.com/ - good range of products cheap and pretty easy to use. I use their flash product, juke box and have used their HTML software (although I hand code my html) & they can help with getting submissions to Google. Not the absolute cheapest on the market but you get what you pay for!0

NVU is discontinued.
Coffee cup seems the best supported currently.0 -
Just as a general rule, if i need any "free" software, i normally find references from www.osalt.com0

Who are signed up with? It's possible they have their own online site builders.0

Thanks so much for all the help! My domain is registered with fasthosts. We use them at work, so i just did it that way. At work we actually sell template websites, but they're geared for business and mine is a personal site, so they're no good for me.
Fasthosts may have something i can use... I was going to use them for hosting anyway. To be honest it just didn't occur to me that they may have a web builder too. Duh!
I'll take a moment at the weekend to sit with a cup of tea and some biscuits and browse through those links.Sarah.

Nvu is a dead project, it hasn't been updated for ages.
The new version is Kompozer:

Have to say I think with web sites you pretty much get what you pay for. I have found the free stuff usually ends up looking like it's free.
I suppose it depends what you want a web site for but if it's for a business I would advise not using free stuff. I know that may not be the right comment to be making here but sadly it's mostly true.0
