WARNING: EDF's Dual Meter reading instructions on their website are wrong
Options
Hello,
I had storage heaters installed towards the end of last year and EDF installed a new digital meter with two settings. Last month I submitted my first reading online following their instuctions as stated below:
If your tariff gives you lower priced off-peak electricity your meter may have two rows of figures like the one in the picture.
The top row records the off-peak electricity you use. It is marked LOW, NIGHT or RATE 1.
The bottom row records the normal rate electricity you use. It is marked NORMAL, DAY or RATE 2.
It wasn't until I sent off the data that I realised that my daytime units were very high, especially since I hardly have anything running. When I checked the meter it was registering Rate 1 during the day and Rate 2 at night: CONTRARY to what it says above.
I called EDF and told them I thought my new meter was set-up wrong/faulty. They sent an engineer out who said the meter is fine the person who read it is wrong. I pointed out that I'd read it as per their instructions and showed him a print out.
They have since sent me a revised bill which is much lower then my original one which had my storage heating charging up on normal rate rather than the reduced night rate.
I don't know how long their site has been giving out the wrong info but it might be worth checking your bills.

Sounds like it might be a common problem, I had a terrible time trying to persuade British Gas my rate 1 was day and 2 is night. The meter readers didn't know which was which either.0
