anyone got any advice about this, we have just found out that the electricity meter we have is a different number to the one on the bills. We have been in touch with our supplier who said it could just be a mistake in the paperwork, we are not sure now whether we have been paying the right amount for electricity, the bills have been quite high any suggeswtions what to do. thanks.

Hello,
I worked in a call centre for an electricity company for about 6 weeks when I left school and this was a common problem!
I assume you are referring to the long (15 digits I think) MPAN number on the meter. This should be the same on your bill. As it is not ring the supplier and give them grief. It maybe an error on the paper work or it maybe that you are being charged someone elses bill. Sometimes the energy supplier will try to determine the MPAN number from the post code so it may well be a next door neighbours number.
The problem then of course, is who is suppling your electric. There is a company you can call to gain this information called MPAS I think. Just give them the MPAN number. Your supplier will be able to give you their details. Hope this makes sense and I am not misleading you - this is based on information from 8 years ago.Back on the MFW Wagon!

Don't worry about it, it is perfectly normal.
Your MPAN number, which is printed on your bill never changes, unless you have a major service alteration carried out.
Your meter number however can change if they swap your meter.
