Camera Bird nest box Help

Aldi have on offer starting tomorrow - Thurs 4th Feb - a bird box with camera installed for £39.99.
Saw the ad in the paper today, it didn't give enough information, so
just looked on their site www.aldi.co.uk (Thusdays offer) I'm non the wiser!
I'd really like one, they are usually a lot more expensive.
Do any of you techies have one? Do they work ? Any info on wiring etc?
:grouphug: A smile, a 'please' and a 'thank you' cost nothing

Can't comment on the camera as I can't see it in the photo, but my view is for a starter kit its excellent value, the birdbox is a very good design with the translutate side plastic panels which will allow more light in during the day so you should get colour video, and at night the IR will come into play to give you b&w video.

I expect you'll get a CMOS type mini camera which is a lower quality camera compared to CCD type camera but they are £40 plus. I put up a home made box with a camera last year, if you look at my site http://lakeuk.blogspot.com/search/label/birdbox then you'll see a photo of my CMOS camera that I think is likely to be included in this offer.

The offer gets my thumbs up for the birdbox alone, whether you get any birds in it will be a gamble and may take some years, we have two boxes up, one gets used each year while the other is empty.

Looking at the write up below, the last bit is wrong it should read - IR's enable night viewing without disturbing the nest
Perfect idea for bird-watching enthusiasts – a ‘camera-in-a-nest-box’ system that captures incredible images of garden birds as they’re nesting. 50 degree lens enables the camera to focus on the entrance and entire bird box floor.
    • Zinc plated fastenings for long life
    • Camera microphone
    • SCART connector
    • Weatherproof 30m cable (S-video/power combined)
    • Adjustable design – open or closed nest box
    • LEDs enable night viewing without disturbing the nest
For wiring you'll connect the power lead to the included power supply and the scart plug to the TV, or VCR

This is the (better) write up when they sold it in 2009
Capture incredible footage of garden birds nesting with this ‘camera-in-a-nest-box’ system. The lens is adjustable to focus on either the bird hole entrance, or entire nest box floor.
    • Assembled in minutes and easily connected to the TV so you can view live footage straight away
    • Adjustable design: open or closed nest box options
    • Camera has 6 × invisible LEDs for night watching
    • Camera microphone to hear great chirping sounds
    • Weatherproof 30m cable (S-video/power combined)
    • SCART connector
    • Colour in the day, black and white images at night
    • Camera already installed and ready to use

Think this is what you get, look at sections 4 and 5 on how it goes together

  • Hi
I bought one of these last year and it is excellent. I managed to record some visitors however none went on to nest.
I decided yesterday that it was time to re-connect the box and was delighted to find that there is a blue tit using the box as a night roost. Hopefully this bodes well for the coming nesting season.
Hope you get hold of one, I don't think you will be disappointed.
  • Thank you for sharing, I think the price is not a camera I can accept

I bought one of these in Aldi last week for £20.

No idea if it works yet - it's wrapped up ready for Xmas.

Isn't it illegal to set up a hidden cam to spy on some bird's box?
