Options
Hiya!

I was hoping someone could help me! I stay in edinbugh and looking to do a part time beauty/nail course. Where would be the best place to look at courses? Also is there any grants/loans etc for it! I have 2 children!

Thanks :j

I'm not sure where the best place to do it is. I know Telford College does it, but best to ask around among people who've done the course. In terms of funding, check out the ILA - Individual Learning Accounts. You can usually get £200 a year towards course fees, but sometimes £500 depending on the number of credits, if you earn under about £22,000pa. That might help settle on which course to do - you can check which ones are eligable here:

Yep ILA Scotland website, you search on the course and it will tell you who teaches, and what courses are eligible.

thanks for the link! Actually seen that advertised on tv before! Found a home learning one, says course fee is £595, would that be before or after the £200 grant is taken off?

That would be before - the £200 is money you apply for. It's a very simple form, just fill it in and supply salary evidence. Then it's up to you to put it towards the listed cost of any course you want to do. You can get it every year too, either for a continuing course or different one. It's ace.

Practical courses like Beauty/Nails aren't really suited to distance learning and may well not be acceptable for either funding or employment. What course are you looking at?

I looked at the beauty one, I did wonder how it would work with being at home! I cant seem to find any part time beauty courses, they are all full time. I went for an interview at telford for one about 4 years ago but as you got given a timetable every term and it was always different days you were in I couldnt do it. I still need to work also which would be hard if college days were different all the time.
I will keep looking though and hopefully something will come up!
