If you can't support your family on what you're earning - that's what the social security system's set up to help with.

You know this, I know this - talking of "scroungers" and "claiming as much as possible" (in a clumsy attempt to get sympathy? I don't know) does't really help, and in fact doesn't make you look much better.

It just further reinforces the image of a man who cares so little about his family that he sticks his head in the sand, doesn't do anything about providing for them, and lets it get so far that the council's heavies come in and start roughing up his wife.

Not much of a man, then, when all's said and done. Grow up and start looking after your family, !!!!!!.

Sorry, but what does this have to do with anything? Loads of people suffer from all sorts of disorders/disabilities, is it to get sympathy?

I agreed to pay the amount requested by cheque, which was refused. I then offered a credit card payment, which was accepted.

I will admit of being wrong for not paying my council tax. However on an income of £490 per month, I really cannot see how I would be able to afford to pay this.
Too bad, we ALL have to pay this, regardless of our salaries. This is NOT the councils problem.

The £1,500 I gave to the thugs today were the very last part of our savings, extorted money on a debt that I should not have paid in the first place due to our very little income.
No, this is the money you owed the council. What in the world do you think you don’t have to pay money you know you owe because you’re on a low income? Everyone pays. Get over it. It's your own fault you don't have any savings, if you're unhappy about your income, do something about it. At this rate, they will be seeing you again next year.

Stop blaming everyone else because you make a choice to leave your bills piling up. You are responsible for paying your council tax, just like everyone else. You think this won’t happen in another country? If you think not, you need a wake up call.

This is the country that I have been calling my home and paid vast amount of taxes in for over twenty years.
This doesn’t make you special nor does it mean you can ignore bills.

Do I really want to stay here and contribute further?
You are more than welcome to leave if you don’t like it. But don’t think any other country will allow you to default on your responsibility.
