Feeling like it'll never get better

I've posted a couple of time and I have been overwhelmed by the support/help/kindness of the people on this site :)

I seam to be in the in-between bit where everything seams to be getting worse and I didn't even think that was possible :(

I've contacted CCCS to set up a DMP but I can't finalise this as I am returning to work so my incoming will go up but so will some of my outgoings. I need to wait till I have my payslip and my new benefits notice (End of Feb hopefully) so my DMP will not start until the beginning of April by the time I've sent the forms in ext

I've had 2 dd's bounce this week  TV licence on the 1st and Telephone/Internet/TV on the 2nd as my loan repayment took all my money. I got my benefits today so I can ring and pay them now (hope they are understanding. I can't afford to pay my Gas/Elec bill as it's £475  I'm going to write to them to see if they will except £75 now and £50 a month till it is paid off :(

I don't know how I'm going to keep until my DMP is in place

I'm scared that one day I'll not have any money to get food :(

I've applied for a basic bank account but I'm worried they'll turn me down :(

I'm constantly worried about getting letter/phone calls from people demanding money.

When I think about the mess I am in I feel sick and the stress of it all is crippling me :(

How do people cope with it all because it's driving my crazy!

  • Our situations are totally different but i cant totally relate to what you are saying

even though my debt is smaller - it makes me feel sick everyday to think how im going to sort it out - worst thing is nobody knows about it :( and if they did know they wouldnt support me because its my own doing!

Im currently in trouble with the council for not being able to afford council tax - i missed 2 payments and im missing sleep at night because of it, i sit awake worrying and its really getting me down -every attempt to reason with them doesnt work, they want the full amount and they want it now - im worried they will send baliffs round or something i hate feeling like this :(

Just wanted you to know you are deffinatly not alone! xx
:A2010 is the year i become debt free :A
    total debt : £2020.23

    Total paid : £119

  • I haven't yet had to go down the DMP route but I can understand your frustration and worry. The main thing to remember is that you have taken steps towards the path of becoming debt free... it will get much easier in the long run, although it may be a slow process you will get there.

Regarding the bank account, I applied for one with no OD and Halifax accepted me even after others had turned me down and I seemed to be at the limits of credit.

Please try not to let it overwhelm you... as I said, you are taking the right steps and it will become more manageable soon.

If they correctly did your application, they wont do a credit check so you should be accepted for a basic account, sadly MSE did an article recently showing that too many times the agents do a credit check anyway and decline you.

Getting by day to day is a tough struggle for anyone needing to get to the DMP stage. But as you say due to changes in income there is no point starting until it has settled down and you know your more long term finances.

  • Hello

As someone who has been there i know how you are feeling. But rest assured it will get better. You have made the right step forward by accepting you had a problem and are trying to do something about it. So you should be pleased with this and look to move forward. If you do not have it, nor can they. For a long time at the start of when things came to a head for me, i would recieve countless calls every day from credit cards etc. I used to look at the number or number with held and think i will not answer it. But the truth is the only way to make these stop is to take the call, listen to them tell you how you can prevent the end of the world by making a payment today. At the end of each call you decline as you do not have the money. i felt a lot better for doing this than ignoring them.

Once the plan is up and running stick to it, make the payments and if you cannot for some reason again, talk to them.

It is hard to not let it get on top of you, but there is light at the end of the tunnel now that you have accepted you need to do something about it.

Good luck with it all. There are thousands of people in the same boat so do not feel like you are alone and the only one to get into difficulties.:)
  • Hi it's tough isn't it? I know what you mean exactly. What I try and do is look back sometims at how far I have come rather then worrying at how far I have to go. Just the fact that you are trying to sort things out is good. However I'm going to get controversial here, I do think council tax is a grossly unfair tax, it's disproportinate, with those on low\average income paying a greater % of their earnings. You can't swop to a "different supplier", you can't turn the thermostat down, you can't shop around, you are jsut stuck with it. Benefit is very low, I applied for CTB when I was on SSP and my salary was down to £560 a month. I was awarded the princlely sum of £10 off my council tax and had to pay £66 a month instead of £76. I am single, a friend in the same council tax band as me lives with her partner. She takes home approx £1,500 a month and her partner £1,300. They pay half the CT bill each which comes in at £55 a month each. I am at a loss to understand how this if fair. Going off topic sorry, but this tax is the cause of so much stress. Hope you feel a bit more hopeful soon

Why is this so high? does it include arrears?
Only give what you can afford regarding repayments especially if your feeling you may be left short for food.

I'm constantly worried about getting letter/phone calls from people demanding money.

If you get phonecalls you can tell them to deal with the situation via post THIS is better then having someone going on and on down the phone at you!!

Thank you I remember your help/support form before. Some times I cry when I read the nice things people have posted as I don't get support anywhere else and I've been through so much I forget there are nice people out there.

I have change my life so much from cutting back on shopping by home cooking, meal planning and home made baby food to selling everything that I don't need/use. I want a better life for me and my little girl we deserve it!

I just feel like it's getting worse at the moment not better

  • I am sure it will turn a corner shortly. Just do not let it get you down too much. It is only money after all, and there is a lot more important things in life. At the end of the day what can they do.
Take care and try looking forward to getting your plan up and running
