Remember though that Amy made millions from selling her books - so it is not the direct result of frugal living rather the indirect marketing of the ideas to people. ... !
it was their frugal lifestyle that enabled them to buy the house and land mortgage free, that's the whole premise of her book and how the Tightwad Gazette came about. any 'millions' she made from the book came much later
... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

There seem to be a lot of diffeerent versions of TWG. Are they volumes 1,2, 3 and so on, or are they updated versions of the same book?"Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"

Very interesting lady. I have never read her books although read lots about them.
I just wonder how many of us UK people at one point would never have bought second hand furniture, clothes etc, I think my Mum passed down some sort of stigma that meant you were poor if you bought second hand yet now I have completely reversed my thinking.
I have a g plan coffee table (now trendy!) from my MIL for nothing, an £85 pine dresser from a charity shop (now painted), full canteen of cutlery for free from a friend, vintage mirror £5 from a charity shop. All of these things no-one would know that I got for free or cheap yet they add character to my house. I'll never be as frugal as Amy but definitely believe I wasted so much money on flatpacked rubbish from MFI when I could have had solid wood furniture second hand!“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0 -

Something she said in the above link keeps making me think. She said that she gets annoyed that people are only frugal becase they have hit hard times. If you always live well below your means then when the hard times come round you wont be affected. This is what most of us have to learn.“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0
