  • It's not paint, its a powder coating which is sprayed on as a powder and then melted so it flows evenly across the surface. There's nothing you can do to repair it I'm afraid :( (I worked in R&D for a large powder maker)

If you've taken that off with Cillit bang, I strongly suggest you keep an eye on the skin on your hands, it can sensitise you and cause dermatitis. Its mostly sulfamic acid with another acid I can't remember thrown in. Nasty stuff.

Sorry to hear about your situation. Hope your wife understands :(

  • :eek:Cillit Bang cannot be used in commercial cleaning because it is too aggressive makes you wonder why it is still allowed to be sold.
Seriously I would just tell her that you tried, and grovel, grovel, grovel but I am sure that she will see the funny side after a bit of a rant after the shock
If all else fails see if you are covered on insurance or google to find new doors x :kisses3:

Report back later if you are still in one piece :rotfl::rotfl:

Best advice yet, never give insurance a thought, but I would still have to own up to being an idiot to use this stuff. But I'm just a man!! Agree with you this cillit bang stuff should come with a warning, it does not warn of any damage to surfaces. Maybe sometime next year she may laugh at this experience, I just hope I can hear it.. Thanks again.:T

If theres no warning on the bottle, your insurance company might want to go after cillit bang for compensation. Must admit I didn't like the stuff, I'm more like ThriftLady, my cleaning requirements are usually satified by soapy water, Stardrops or if its really bad, Cif! Good luck and throw yourself on the mercy of your wife and show her theres no warning on the bottle and what more can she say?! Of course you'll get chapter & verse on 'you never help and when you do.......' but she'll love the fact that you tried!
  • My Mum wanted to match her fridge door to the rest of the kitchen (dark wood) so took the fridge door to her local garage and they sprayed it quite cheaply.

Dont know if this is an option for you?

I hate Cillit Bang with a passion, the smell could kill me, well not literally, but I wont allow it in my house

I was going to suggest car body paint, it what my dad used on the freezer that was kept in the shed when the scratches went rusty.
I THINK is a whole sentence, not a replacement for I Know

Aw, c'mon, amerste, do tell, how did the encounter between wife and stripped doors go? I am dying of curiosity! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).
  • If there is no warning you could consider contacting Cilit bang yourself and explaining the situation. See what they propose.
