I do find the press generated hysteria rather annoying now. Nothing significant has changed today from a few weeks ago. Personally I have no fear about a sticking throttle. People need to get things in perspective. There are millions of other things going on that have higher risk factors and apply to all cars.

Will be a real body blow to Toyota which has long been viewed as a very reliable brand.

It still is a reliable brand, I would buy a Toyota in front of most other makes, it is just the media hyping it all up.

Most car makers have recalls, they just don't get the publicity that this one has.

I think I'd try and ram it into 'P'. Would make a hell of a noise coming to a stop and would be a lot of tyre squeal but I think it would work.

In to neutral, brake to a stop, switch off engine.;)

Although in this case the brakes weren't working as they had overheated. But I guess if he'd put it to neutral straight away then the brakes wouldn't have overheated.
This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

I was surprised the driver couldnt get off the road which sounds like a motorway? Many many years ago, OH and I were driving down a very steep hill in the Cotswolds when he realised his brakes had gone, he didnt even tell me, lol, I just thought he was going a bit fast and then he turned onto the verge which banged the front of the car but at least stopped us getting as far the busy crossroads in front.

Terribly tragic though, that young family.
