I shake my fist at UPS

Okay it's not entirely UPS's fault, but I'm still pretty annoyed. I have been waiting for a package which should have been delivered Tuesday. As me and the OH both work, OH rang UPS to ask if the delivery man could ring 15 minutes in advance, so he could go to work as normal and walk home to collect the package when it arrived. UPS said this would be fine. No call was received, and he got home to find the 'you were out' card. Understandably a bit miffed as UPS had said this would be fine- fair enough, if they hadn't, he would have got the day off. Today we were taking no chances and he got the morning off. As we have recently moved and our intercom wasn't working (the company who can fix the intercom are equally rubbish), we put a sign up at the entrance with a note and our number. Come the afternoon no sign of parcel. He waits a bit longer and has to take the whole day off. Eventually he gives up and rings UPS who say the delivery man came and went. Apparently they don't have mobiles so couldn't call.

Now I'm not saying that this is a lie, but I find it a bit unbelievable that their delivery men don't have mobiles. I've had to do this tons of times before and up til now other delivery companies have been quite happy to do so. If I hadn't already heard so many stories of UPS being lazy and inefficient than I might have bought it, but I'm confused as to why they promised the delivery man would ring in the first place!

The package is now a 20 minute train away and a 10 minute taxi ride there and back as neither of us drive. OH is insisting on picking it up himself to avoid dealing with UPS any longer, which is all very well and good except it's hardly money saving, and we only have one set of keys at the moment so I will have to roam the streets until he gets back. I'll probably sit in a nice warm pub to be honest, but again not very money saving to buy drinks just to not freeze to death outside ;)

Can't complain too much though as at least OH gets paid leave, although it's still a bit of a shame he wasted it cursing the name of UPS. I wish I'd just sent it to one of our work addresses now but they always open/x-ray your stuff which I'm not too keen on. I am destined to never have exciting parcels!
