hi lessonlearned,
basically i needed 3 large fillings and the first of my life! got to 25 with none which i'm pretty proud about!
anyways, had to go back on saturday to get one filed down as it was sharp and dentist then did the gum treatment so only had to spend another £12. The filings cost so much because as they were so big and complicated. so, phew thats that over with now! only got to get a tooth guard now to stop me grinding my teeth away. OH is paying for that as it drives him MAD! LOL!
looked into HSA but they only pay for up to 50% of the work done and Denplan doesn't cover everything either. up until now ive never needed anything done so it would cost me £12 a month or £144 a year. considered physically putting that money into a special savings account for when i need it. Learned a HUGE lesson by not going to the dentist regularly so by going every 6 months hopefully i'll avoid such a massive bill for a while.
thanks for your suggestions, I will read into it further.Lightbulb moment: July 2006

Hey Iriahm,
I'm really enjoying your posts and your diary - keep up the good work!
I don't have any experience of prepay cards - and I don't understand why you wouldn't just switch to an account that offered switch/visa delta that will let you spend what you have in your account.
Smile (online bank) are offering 12 bottles of wine if you open a new account with them and you get visa delta for no charge a month.
Hope this helps. Well done for posting and i'm looking forward to getting to know you better!

thanks scottishspendaholic!
unfortunately smile won't open me an account. 12 bottles of wine sounds marvelous but i'm a basic bank account kinda girl!
my reasoning behind not having an electron card is because the root of my problems is my spending, i just get carried away or persuaded by marketing and i hate it. take away that opportunity and hopefully i can make some inroads to this debt. i've opened a 2nd current account to give me spending money each month but the bank lets you go overdrawn for the pleasure of charging you. grrr!Lightbulb moment: July 2006

well, i woke up thinking that i was in another country! honestly not used to this fab weather. Sooty (my lethargic cat) jumped into my shower this morning as he was so hot and i've never seen him drink so much!
so far spent 83p today on cereal at work (was soooo hungry as no dinner last night.....need to shop)
did the snowball thingy and i've worked out what I need to do to be debt free by 2010 as planned Its gonna be tough but very worth it.
hope the sun is lifting everyone else's moods, i'm verging on hyper and getting some funny looks at my desk! LOL!Lightbulb moment: July 2006

Hi there! Just a suggestion.....if you have to get the bus every day, every week...it is worth asking if they do savings.
Usually day returns are cheaper than singles (but you may be doing this anyway) and a lot of bus companies do weekly tickets which work out a lot cheaper.
Hope this helps!
Edit: *** D'OH! Ignore that...just read your bit about the bus pass!! ***

lol! thanks! bus pass cost me £50 deposit and £33 a month. Direct debit doesnt come off until 20th August so most of that deposit is going to be used up. it only saves me a wee bit each month, but it stops me needing to withdraw cash so will actually save me a fortune as there won't be any cash wanting to be spent in my purse! yey!Lightbulb moment: July 2006

just written a cheque for the factors bill that i owe £170
so thats money that I can now pay off other stuff. Actually looking forward to getting paid tomorrow as i'm now focussed on what i'm doing. cheers everybody!Lightbulb moment: July 2006

Have just been reading about your bingeing weekend - packs of pitta breads - wow!!!!! Hardly the crime of the century!!!!
Most of what you bought (although you don't actally say what you spent in Ikea
) will get used, don't be so hard on yourself!!!
As for a day in the garden ,,,,,, the jobs can wait, summer will be over in no time, am off to enjoy it now!!!!
Glad you're more upbeat now, good news about the CTax and well done on another debt paid off.
Will expect updated signature tomorrow!A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort
