How much debt were and are you in?

To be honest I never really knew the full extent of my unsecured debts, just that I was in a LOT of trouble (although I've never significantly fell behind with my payments). I was able to pay off a big chuck about 3 years ago when I sold and rented back my flat (fortunately this was a private deal, not through one of those vulture companies you hear about, and I got close to market value). Though at that point I still hadn't been brave enough to sit down and add up everything I owed but my unsecured debts probably topped the £100,000 mark!
Now the picture is a lot healthier (after inheriting some money about about 18 months ago), with no secured debts and my unsecured debts now below £25,000, I am able to pay off a significant amount each month with the aim of being debt-free before the start of the Olympic Games (and the End of The World :rotfl:) in 2012!
mssloanFree at last! Free at last! Thank God Almighty, I'm DEBT-FREE at last! (with apologies to Martin Luther King

I'm 28 so know exactly what you mean about the debt feeling a lot for your age.
Oh dear, I beat you all! 22 here, with a debt that started around £13,000. I'm in a position to pay about half of it back now, and hope to be DF by the end of the year.
Im lucky in that I have no guilt about my debt - it was my MSc tuition, and led to a good job right away which has given me the income to pay it back. I've always been pretty good at living within my means (I've been working since I was 16, so dont really feel 22!) so hopefully after this year of frugalness push I'll be back on track to staying DF....Mortgage free by 30:eek:: £28,000/£100,000
Debt free as of 1 October, 2010

Joined here in 2008, I was in £12,000 worth of debt. Now in £3000 worth of debt, which with savings I will be paying off end of March. :jNo you're not a vegetarian if you eat any animal or fish, so do not insult genuine veggies by calling yourself one!
Thanks to everyone who posts competitions. You are the stars of the board :T:j:T0 -

First payment to DMP in November 2003, only two more payments to go and then I'll be DEBT FREE.0 -
£42k at my LBM (roughly... I was too scared to total it up at the time) in October 2008. Now my debt is just over £21k. Should be paid off completely sometime in 2011 if I go hell for leather at it, but the big goal this year is to clear student loans (£2k) and my CC consolidation loan (currently about £8k). With a bit of luck and a fair wind I should also be able to clear my OD (£2k).
Then all that's left is my stamp duty loan (I know... doh!) in 2011.0
