ive just signed up with a gambling site and received the following email:
We have been informed by your card issuing bank that the bin range for your card may
be compromised.
As a result we have had to suspend your account until we recieve a copy of a form of
photographic ID and a copy of a statement for the card used with us.
Your account will remain suspended pending reciept of the above
any idea what a bin range is, is this normal and would you do this?
***Update - just founf out bin range is the first six digits of a debit card and sometimes retailed may query if the bin range is from outside of the country of issue. Well im based in england and its an english debit card.
any ideas appreciated.

http://www.chipandpin.org/pages/c6.htm may give you dome info about them. There may be nothing in it but the message seems at bit strange. I don't know what others here who are close to tbe banking industry think, but if there is something wrong with your card, why were you not told. Just in case it might be worth getting some advice.0

well ive sent them an email saying if my card is compromised i would expect my bank to be calling me to confirm the transactions authenticity not a merchant. They dont seem able to give me an appropriate response. Ive cheked the email address is the correct one from their internet site and they are a large company so im feeling a little iffy about doing as they ask.0

If it is a Solo or Electron card they will be querying it as people under the age of 18 can get these cards, they are then protecting themselves by asking for further ID to verify your age.
Same counts if it is a prepaid credit card.
Speak to your bank first though to see if they can discuss this with the gambling site, if not, then if you have nothing in the account, I'd walk away.Treat others as you would like to be treated :A0 -
This came up elsewhere on these boards - the site involved is Paddy Power which is based in Ireland.
They have stringent ID policies, but are perfectly reputable. The easiest thing to do is just to send them the ID they request. If you're concerned about security you can blank out the middle numbers and CVV.0 -
