Yep, hands up I feel a trusting fool. At the time we were on the hard shoulder of the M6 at night, in freezing conditions unable to get out of our car due to the adverse conditions and scared for the safety of our kids.
Us and the car was left in an un-secured area by the M6 not a place of repair.
We had Roadside cover through our insurance with AA, which means they should have taken us to a place of repair... Egertons didn't have the means to repair our car. We didn't realise that fact when we were took to their depot. I was trying to keep my kids warm not flicking through the T&C's, at the time.

At no point did the AA or Egertons explain what we would be charged for storage. I phoned Egertons to ask if the car was ok where it was, obviously in hind site it is our word against theirs. But why should my word be any less than theirs? At no point did Egertons contact us to say "your cars near our depot, we need to move it and it will cost you £25 a day for storage".
We didn't ask Egertons to pick the car up, or indeed store it for us.

Sorry but was utter tosh. If you had the cover why didnt you query why you werent taken to a garage (or if garages were closed home).

As for the next bit. Tbh you asked them to store it. You should have asked them the costs. Its your word against theres and I know whose argument makes more sense and reasonable argument.

Why on earth would you not do anything before now? The car could simply have had a flat/dead battery.

    Doesnt add up.

I am going to suggest its an old banger and you knew fine it was goosed so in essence abandoned it in their yard until you could be bothered dealing with it expecting them to just put up with it.
  • a. At the time we didn't know we were entitled to be taken to a working garage, considering the situation. We had to save up for the money to get the car towed to somewhere else.

    b. I asked if the car was ok to be kept on a scrappy bit of unsecured waste ground near their portacabin. I trusted the Egertons employee. I didn't ask for it to be moved, neither did anyone contact us to say otherwise.

    c. How did I ask them to store it? We were dumped there! We couldn't afford to do anything till now. The car was 6 year's old, that appeared to have lost oil and over heated after being stuck in traffic. It wasn't a banger, if I had known what we would have been charged I could have easily called a scrap yard to come and collect it for next to nowt. It was also 200 miles away.

So it was a banger or you wouldnt have considered scrapping it.

You asked them to look after it. You didnt seriously think it was ok to leave it FOC for over a month.

Secondly you had no idea what was wrong with it. Why wouldnt you check.

quite frankly your story is ludicrous.

You pulled a fast one and have been owned.

    Rocky,

I understand your frustration. Would suggest you contact the AA and explain had they sent out one of their "normal" patrols then likely they could have fixed the problem, quote to them their 80% stats of fixing at the roadside. Be polite all the way through and ask can they help you in anyway.

also dont feed the troll. Just because he has a high post couunt doesnt make him credible. His sole purpose seems to be to disrupt the boards and have arguments with people in distress

Rocky72 - I suggest you ignore Anihilator and if you feel the posts are disruptive you may consider adding the member to your ignore list so the posts aren't directly visible.

You can do this by clicking this handy link: Add Anihilator to Your Ignore List

If there was ever to be a world record for number of wild assumptions and stupid comments made on a thread, Anihilator would likely be a serious contender.

I hope you get through to someone useful when you speak to/contact the AA. If I were you I'd make a list of issues and go through each one with the AA, remembering to keep calm and polite at all times.

Frankly, dumping you and your children in a depot all alone in the freezing cold is probably not the sort of service the AA would want to be associated with and I hope they resolve this in a way you find acceptable.

Could the above be turned into a sticky:rotfl::rotfl:

Prob get nominated for most popular thread on the boards
  • In reply to Anihilator.
No I didn't ask them to look after it, if I had been told we were getting charged for storage then it wouldn't have been worth recovering. The car is worth £1200ish, hardly a banger. Hardly worth recovering now though.
How would I check what was wrong with it. Egertons wasn't a working garage to be able to check what was wrong and I needed to pay to get it home before so that it could be checked over. They were 200 + miles away, not down the road.
Feel free to visit their depot and have a look round for signs, if you want to call me a blaggard.

Thanks for all the other replies! :)
  • Anihilator, I'm quite willing to meet up and show you where we were dumped, the lack of signs regarding storage fees, the facilities, etc. It would be great to put a name to a face.

Rocky, why does your story keep changing?

I can't see that the story is changing. Take a look for yourself and please feel free to point out any alterations to material facts...

I phoned Egertons in the New Year to see if the car would be OK with them till we arranged recovery. They said it would.

We just assumed the car would be left in this unsecure area and were prepared to put up with the fact that it might get broken into etc.

What! The reason it is my first post is because I searched the internet to find out if someone could legally charge us for moving our car to a storage facility without even telling us they... and found this site.
They are trying to charge us for the first night.

What Rocky72 needs is advice in making a good complaint to the AA. If you're not willing to contribute in this respect I would suggest you leave this thread to those who are willing to help. :)

Well actually it has. It went from asking them if they were ok to keep the car to asking for it to be kept on waste land for free.

I.e the OP has realised his argument was ludicrous and slightly ammended the facts.
