I followed the guide here in readiness to renew my car insurance due on 1st March. Got quotes from the comparison sites and the best came out at £250 pa plus free roadside cover.
I phoned my car insurer Aviva (been with them 5 years - loyal or stupid? you judge) last week to ask what their renewal cost would be, since they are not on comparison sites.... as expected 'we cant tell you madam, we can only tell you 4 weeks before renewal is due, but yes madam, you are right, if you were a new customer we could quote upto 12 before renewal was due, ring back etc etc'.
Rang back today and the quote for renewal £348!!, (30 quid cheaper than last year) told the gentleman that the AA came out at £250 + roadside and he said he would see what he could do (much whirring of computermebobs in the background) et voila - as a 'gesture of goodwill and reward for your loyalty' car insurance renewal £249 + a £20 fuel voucher :j.
Great advice on info saved me around £100 - thanks!!
Now to get stuck into the building and contents.

A classic case of "if you don't ask, you don't get"

Always good to get price cuts but ensure you check your documents when you get them through - make sure things like the excess, LE cover, Courtesy Car etc havent been changed. Many insurers/ brokers offer a cut down version of their products on aggregators to get higher up the league tables and to price match insurers will often mirror these weaker products. All posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

Very good point, the guy on the phone did say that he was changing nothing on the policy - but I will be sure to check.0
