Query about compensation and benefits

Heya everyone.

I'm on income support due to incapacity and DLA high rate care and low rate mobility. I don't get housing benefit or LHA.

Late last year I was involved in a car accident which left me with a sprained ankle, a sprained neck and bruising to my back and chest, as well as psychological effects.

The solicitors said that it was worth pursuing for compensation which is what I did at their advice.

I received a letter this morning telling me that they are looking to get approx £2,500 for me.

Am I right in thinking that this won't affect my income support because it doesn't take me over the savings limit and the reason I was on income support wasn't because of the injuries relating to the accident? As I understand it, if I were on income support for the accident related injuries then I would have to pay back what I received in benefits, but because I wasn't, does this mean that it wouldn't affect my IS?

As the money does not take you over the lower capital limit of £6000 it will not affect your IS.
