can you freeze gravy?

Options
Hi everyone, we have just had a delicious chicken made from one of the recipies in the slow cooker thread (chicken in a crock). I used the juices and the onions that were in the crock to make a gravy which was gorgeous but far too much of it. So sorry for the daft question but can i freeze whats left as it is too nice to waste.
Thanks
:pwould like to make it known it is not a DHN, she's dancing :p

'Gravy tends to separate and curdle when thawed. It is better to freeze broth and make gravy just before
serving. Waxy rice flour or waxy corn flour can be used as a thickener, or add 1/4 teaspoon unflavored gelatin
to each quart of gravy before freezing.'

Got that from the food freezing guide that Queenie has just posted on the thread can you freeze pasta salad..very useful:D

yes I freeze gravy and stock all the time. If theres excess liquid in a slow cooker meal I freeze it and have it as soup another day.

Yes, you can freeze it, and you can even re-heat it straight from frozen (provided it is piping hot before serving). It may be a little thinner 'second time round' but you can thicken it again with your usual gravy thickener or granules.
It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.

  • Always freeze leftover gravy- you never know when you might need a bit of gravy. It's useful for adding to soups, pie fillings and stews as well as pouring over your sausages ;)

My housemate doesn't cook often but when he does it is normally some sort of meat (often rather classy from the organic deli he works at) casseroled or stewed in buckets of gravy made with the best part of a bottle of red wine. I get the leftover gravy. I freeze it in ice-cube trays and then I put all the little cubes in a tied-off carrier bag and store them like that.
