Pre-existing medical condition

is anyone able to advise, please? I have a PPI with my Nationwide Mortgage account. I did not think that it was mis-sold until i read the information on the main site that a pre-existing medical condition may prevent a successful claim.
I have an ongoing mental health problem which recurs every so often, causing me to take time off work. The condition pre-dates my mortgage.
I cannot recall being asked anything about my medical history when i got the policy, and the reason i got it was because, if anything is going to go wrong, it would be due to this condition (i am luckily not at risk of redundancy).
Could anyone advise me as to how i would find out what was on the original application for PPI, and whether i am covered for a possible claim?
I cannot recall being given any paperwork in relation to the PPI.

    Hi there

In regards of requesting for your information, you could request a Subject Access Request (SAR), they have 40 days to comply/send all the info they hold on you, there is a cost of £10 postal order or cheque payment you need to enclose in the SAR letter, details and template here:

Info here on PPI reclaiming with guidelines etc:

Seems like you do have a good case here, however hopefully Dunstonh will post up with some useful info and advice on this one for you.

    Good luck with this.;)

a pre-existing complaint would mean you are unlikely to be covered in that area but doesnt stop unrelated conditions from being covered.

Unless its a major pre-existing condition, there isnt a problem.
I cannot recall being given any paperwork in relation to the PPI.

It tends to arrive in the post the following days after application.
I cannot recall being asked anything about my medical history when i got the policy,

Thats because its not PHI but PPI. PHI is underwritten at point of sale (and you are asked questions). PPI is effectively underwritten at point of claim and you are asked then.

As many people have found, putting in a complaint about pre-existing conditions not covering you can usually end up with a rejection as there is no evidence that they would not cover you. I would suggest that before you put in a complaint, you contact the MPPI provider and ask them if you would be covered or what restrictions there may be due to your health conditions. Once you know that, you will know if you have a case or not.

    Thank you to both.

I will make further enquiries about this. I do not want to find myself excluded if the worst happens.
